We saw Mike performing in Newcastle in March – what a great performer and entertainer as well as an accomplished musician! We leapt at the chance to put on this workshop when we heard that Mike would be back in the North East again – all the way from sunny Bermuda!
After the Workshop, Mike will be thrilling and amusing us with his own dynamic show! There will be everything from heartfelt songs that move you to tears to some great sing-a-longs that are not quite what you expect when you think of the ukulele!
“Funny, irreverent and spontaneous, Bermudian ukulele artist Mike Hind performs all over the island – entertaining crowds with an eclectic range of songs from classic romance tunes to the catchiest pop numbers.”
MIKE HIND BIO:
With years of experience in comedy, theatre and performing with local bands, Mike decided to pick up a ukulele at age 41. His show is equal parts joyful and melodious comedy, with audience members often dragged in by playful heckling. In 2013, he released his EP “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” and is working on both a live album and an album of classic 70s folk-pop covers… and possibly another with disco covers!
In 2012, Mike became a sponsored artist with Mim’s Ukes and, in 2014, an endorsed artist with Moku Ukuleles, demo’ing the new Mike Hind Model at NAMM in 2015.
In the winter of 2013 and 2014, Mike toured the USA with The Flea Bitten Dawgs. After playing and MC’ing for Craig Chee, Sarah Maisel and Julia Nunes in 2013, in November 2014, he was a headliner at the Tampa Bay Ukulele Getaway alongside the likes of Seeso, Marc “Li’l Rev” Revenson and Victoria Vox.
In September 2015, he will be traveling to Greece with Narciso “Seeso” Lobo where he will perform and hold workshops at “My Big, Fat Greek Ukulele Adventure”.
Some unexpected, extra loveliness! When Mike performed at my birthday party in March, DJ Lalya Gaye provided some beautiful sounds during the evening! Mike and his wife Christine Hind remembered Lalya and her music and asked if she would be doing the same again.
Lalya also plays ukulele rather beautifully – and she is going Mike’s workshop. I asked her . . . and Lalya has VERY kindly agreed to DJ during the evening too! So, there will be some lovely sounds to entertain us as we settle down and in the interval between the Workshop and Mike’s Performance!
